Our Focus On Off-Site Accommodation
By 1993, MESPL itself had an 800 men strong foreign workforce. They were housed in the former PUB Staff Quarters situated in Kellock Road, and a converted factory
in Kallang. The company encountered some problems with this arrangement. It learnt from these experiences that the quarters, built to house small families, and even converted factories could not meet the demands of worker’s housing.
It was then that the idea of a purpose built off-site dormitory for foreign workers was conceptualized, and thus, it became our core business. This dormitory would be capable of housing foreign workers by the thousands, plus amenities, and yet make no compromise in matters of security, safety, hygiene, and comfort of its tenants. MESPL created its MESDORM Division in 1994 to start diversifying and pioneering into the designing and building of government approved purpose built off-site foreign worker dormitories. Another subsidiary, Labourtel Management Corporation Pte Ltd, was also created to specialize in the activity of property management and the operation of worker dormitories. To date MESPL, through its wholly owned subsidiaries, have built and operated three purpose built foreign worker dormitories using special purpose vehicles (companies) like Kaki Bukit Developments Pte Ltd, Jurong Island Dormitory Pte Ltd, and K.T. Mesdorm Pte Ltd.
